We are primarily an athletics team, but we also compete in Swimming, Ten Pin Bowling and our juniors often attend the Wheelpower Primary and Junior Sports Camps, in Stoke Mandeville. These camps are aimed at children aged between 9-18yrs; incorporating all of the disciplines that are included in the Paralympics. As every one on the team has a different disability and ability level; I have researched these and have tried to adapt our training accordingly. We cater for any age and any disability, whether it is a physical or learning disability. The only stipulation people have in order for them to join the team, is that they are team orientated and can demonstrate good sportsmanship and team camaraderie. It's as simple as that!! Currently we have 11 athletes on our books and the age range is from 5yrs - 35yrs; but we are still a growing team.

We are a sports team for people with disabilities in the UK

Based in Fleet, Hampshire, under the South East Region of athletics

"My goal for this team is for people to come and be part of a team from whom there is no pressure to compete. I want people to enjoy their sport and experience great camaraderie and sportsmanship; but to also make good friends from all over the country. I have team members from all areas of disability too, which is great because it has meant that I have been able to expand my knowledge in all areas of sport; be it through the Dwarf games, CP sports and visually impaired games. We all compete at different levels too; I have many juniors who have taken part in the Regional sports championships and even the Junior Nationals in Blackpool. I myself had my first debut at International level on the 15th - 17th June last year in Manchester, at the British Open Athletics Championships; and hopefully I will some day be able to represent Great Britain and maybe even make it to the Paralympics in 2012. I know for sure that some of my juniors are setting their sights on those games too, so this is a very exciting transition in our team at the moment. Anyone is welcome to come and join in with the team and the only criteria they have to abide by, is that of sportsmanship, consideration for your team mates and the hunger for fun. For many people, sport is their respite; so there should never be any pressure or stresses on an athlete to perform until they reach either Regional or National level"
